I had the most awesome journey back down to LA, my old hometown. As my plane made for the runway at LAX, just before descending over the 405, there was a huge public pool, filled with kids doing laps. I could see their splashes from my window seat. Very cool. On a shuttle ride from the commuter plane terminal to the main LAX terminal we all watched the dance that is the planes and trucks and people on the tarmack. We watched as one baggage cart snaked around and lost one of the bags. It just sat out there in the LA sun. Stranded. But, it didn’t take long before it was scooped up again.
Anyway, I’m waiting for the Super Shuttle and the gal there who organizes the pick-ups says, “What’s going on at The Century Plaza?” I’m like, a writer’s conference. She says, “Oh, yeah? You a writer?” I say I am and that my book was just released. She says, “Does it got drama?” I’m like, yeah. It’s got a lot of drama. I loved her.
Today I met amazing writers from all over: Oklahoma, Oakland, Australia, Alaska. Trudy, from Alaska, hasn’t seen nighttime for a while. I think it’s cool that this is her first night in a while. Dee from Australia was struggling to stay awake when I met her, but we kept her out late. We went to Pink Taco with some other writers from Chicago, Arizona and Minnesota. When we got back to the room, there was an amazing moon in the sky, setting, just beyond the MGM building. It was pink and sort of orange and large in the sky, a quarter moon. Edna and I called it the pink taco moon. And I learned a few things that I absolutely HAD to write down. Like how you can schedule Tweets on Tweetdeck [ok, stop saying duh!] and QR Codes. YAY! And the conference hasn’t even started yet!
Sooooo.I got some ‘splainin’ to do…here’s the scoop. Um…yeah. So I’m ALL ALONE at the LAX airport. Like all alone. Epically alone. And I’m freaking out until I realize OMG! This is the spot. THIS is the spot. I LOVE Jackie Brown. And I’m in the spot where Jackie was filmed. I’ve never seen this part of LAX before [I lived here for 25 years] so this is like me having my own little party! YAY.
